M.A.A.S Mysteries: A Beginning

Acorn went through deserts, jungles, rivers, lakes, and many more. Then, she came upon a gigantic storm! The map blew away! Woosh! Acorn was lost! She went to find shelter and hid in a tree until the storm passed.  “Hmm, the sun is rising in the East. I need to go South, so that way,” said Acorn. On her way, she met a leopard walking towards a tree. “Hi! My name is Acorn. I lost my map and wanted the directions to America,” explained Acorn. “Get out of here, or I will crack you just like you crack an acorn,” said the unfriendly leopard. “Well, you’re rude,” retorted Acorn. “I get what I want, now GO!” yelled the leopard. “No,” remarked Acorn. “No?” asked the leopard. “You said no to me?” raged the leopard. “Yes,” said Acorn calmly. “You, my meat! Did you rodent steal it!?” “I AM NOT A RODENT! My name is Acorn. How could I steal your meat if I have been talking to you this whole time?” shrieked Acorn, losing her cool. “You’ve done it now!” said the leopard, sharpening its cla...

1824 Diary of Mabel Nellie Estelle

This is something I wrote for a school project about the Old 300. True Love Shines Diary of Mabel Nellie Estelle The year was 1824. A 15 year old girl struggles with love, life, and so much more. Making a big move from Mississippi to Texas was a big deal with her parents and three brothers. Leaving behind her whole life. December 25th, 1823 Times are horrible. Each day is barely crawling away to make us suffer. Ain’t no Christmas this year. Ma and Pa had to sell our farm. I cried and tried to convince them to keep it. The farm has been in our family for generations. Pa was all ishkabibble ‘bout me. He said “Ain’t our farm no more. Don’t you be a plague-sore, the amount of money we made will keep us afloat for years! The bee's knees! Now go down and milk those stubborn cows. Now, GIT!” January 2nd, 1824 We sold the farm and got some thick cheddar. Pa was right, we was rich. Late that night, something click-clacked my window. That meant to come outside! I held my boots in my hand an...

Where My Stories Go to Die Part 1

I write a lot of stories, but for the past couple of years, I get an idea for a story, and then it goes to die in my Google Docs. It is really embarrassing. To fix this problem, I have decided that I am going to post my incomplete stories to motivate myself to finish them. This one is from 2024 ....yikes...welcome to this incomplete story: A Normal Day Gone Wrong Luna’s laugh echoed through the trees. Her footsteps trembling the soft ground. Eiffel was on her tail, squelch after squelch after squelch. Luna’s eyes darted to a thicket. Her clothes were covered in mud; it would be the perfect hiding spot. She dove in and hid behind a tree. Soon enough, Eiffel was there, hoping to find Luna crouched behind bushes. Luna held her breath, and Eiffel moved on. Luna let out a sigh of relief and took a step out of her hiding place. “YAARGH!” Eiffel jumped out and threw her hands around her sister. “AAAAAH!” Luna squealed. “I thought you left!” “But then again, I always win!" Luna’s elder ...

Trouble on Valentines

This is what it’s like having a sister. I awoke to the sound of ragged breathing running along down my neck. It felt hot and humid. I yawned and shifted to the side. The breathing followed me. Soon after, I got irritated and opened my eyes. I saw sparkly sunglasses, too much makeup, and a wide smile looking back at me. I screamed! “Hi, sissy! HAPPY VALENTINE’S DAY!” said my little sister. She handed me a white envelope.  As I opened it, the glitter blinded me. “Hey, where did you get all these sparkles from?” “I used Mommy’s diamond dust and your clear nail polish to give it a shine!” “WHAT!” I yelled. “You know you’re not supposed to use Mommy’s diamond dust! Wait! Did you….just say you used my CLEAR NAIL POLISH?!” “Yup!” she nodded. I ran to the bathroom. There was my nail polish. Empty. Some of the contents were dripping out and it was a sparkly mess. My mouth hung in horror. “NO! What did you do?!” “Made you a Valentine's card, duh,” she answered. “GET OUT OF MY ROOM! AN...

Scholarship Essay

My name is Amulya Kuntamukkala and I’m a 5th grader at Barksdale Elementary in Plano, Texas. Ever since I learnt about nursery rhymes that my mom used to play for me, I was fascinated by the pleasant sound of music and Piano. I found a way to express myself and my feelings through music as I love to create my own music compositions. At times, I found myself singing in the shower and my parents proposed I should sharpen my skills and take voice lessons.  Classical songs are my favorites to play! Sometimes, I like to do a few tricks like playing a nursery rhyme with my hands on it backward or putting my head on the bench and my hands on the Piano which my teacher Ms.Jamie finds very amusing. Piano training has helped me in reading music proficiently. I am taking choir as an elective in middle school to help me read more complex music and improve my voice. The theory tests have made it easier to understand the world of Piano. I was thrilled to win first prize in the Reflections...

Why Try if I Can Never Be Perfect

Why even try if I can never be perfect? I sighed as I saw the girls laughing together. “You’re totally going to get the lead, Mia! You’re so pretty, smart, perfect, and talented!” All of her minions laughed in perfect unison. They were the most popular girls in school. I walked up beside Mia and began to pull out a pen. I signed my name on the auditions sheet, right under Mia’s. As soon as I started to put the cap back on my pen, I felt all eyes staring at me. “Why is Ava here?” One of Mia’s minions stared at me with a stupid face. “What makes you think YOU could get the part? You’re so awkward on stage, whereas I would be perfect for the part.” said Mia, smirking. You know what, I was done taking Mia’s crappy behavior, “Look, Mia. I may not have the perfect looks, the perfect life, the perfect grades–” She cut me off, “You’re right, you don’t!” Then she turned around with her posse, her beautiful black locks slapping me in the face, and she walked away. Her minions choked with...
