Freshwater vs. Saltwater

Ever wonder what the difference is between saltwater and freshwater? The five major oceans account for 96.5% of all the saltwater on the planet Earth. 3% of the earth's water is fresh. 2.5% of the earth's fresh water is unavailable: locked up in glaciers, polar ice caps, atmosphere, and soil. Sure, freshwater is fresh and saltwater has salt, but what else is different about them? Saltwater and freshwater have different animals, bodies of water, and similarities. Freshwater is very important to us because everything living thing on this earth depends on it. And where there’s fresh water, there’s plants and animals. Animals that live near and in freshwater include snails, fish, worms, turtles, frogs, marsh birds, mollusks, alligators, beavers, otters, snakes, and many types of insects. Marine Madness

Image
When people dump trash in the sea, where does it go? What happens to it? People dump trash in the sea and it goes into marine animal bodies, making them struggle and die. We know what causes it, but what are the effects? 150 million metric tons of plastic are in the ocean, and 8 million more tons are added every year. People think that pollution is not okay, but it’s more than not okay, it's deadly! Marine organisms entangled in pollution can suffer from suffocation and starvation which lead to their death. And improperly disposed of chemicals are polluting marine life and killing sea mammals, corals, and fish. At the same time, sea birds are affected because they eat contaminated fish. The long-term effects of pollution in the sea are reproductive system failure, behavioral changes, cancer, and death. And all that can lead to severe and drastic changes to our whole ecosystems. But there are always more, maybe medium-sized effects, that can lead to big effects. These land-based s...

The Time Machine

Charlotte is a beautiful, smart girl. Always has her nose deep into a history book. The book teleported her to many places. At the signing of “The Declaration of Independence on July 2nd, 1776” or maybe at the “American Revolution”, with the prehistoric time with dinosaurs, with Orville and Wilbur Wright. So many places that just fit in one book! It was early morning, and Charlotte was at the wishing well with her favorite history book. She took a shiny penny and whispered, “I wish I could get a time machine and I get to travel back in time to see these places.” Then she dropped the coin and watched it sink in the water until it wasn’t in eyesight anymore. A few weeks later after that moment, Charlotte was sitting at her desk, when white steam appeared out of thin air! A rusted car was sitting in her bedroom! To get a closer look, Charlotte dusted all the brown particles off, and there, it read: Time Machine .  “Whoa, my wish came true! I’ve got an idea! I can test it on my ...
