I dedicate this book to my guidance counsellor and my dad for inspiring me to write this story.
MEET THE AUTHOR
My name is Amulya Kuntamukkala. I am 11 years old. I am in fifth grade at Barksdale Elementary School in Plano, Texas. My teacher’s name is Mrs. Young. I became an author at the age of seven.
This is my fourth publication. I have also written “Gracie and Grassy and the Coconut Shell”, and “Restaurant Fever” The idea for this book came from my one and only dad giving me bright ideas.
My favorite books and author are Harry Potter books by J.K. Rowling. In my free time, I like to hang out with friends, organize, read, write, watch TV, go for walks, and play with my sister. My favorite school subjects are Math, Art, and RLA.
When I am an adult I want to be an author and illustrator because I love to write and draw.
Everything was fine until BOOM! Brain was sitting in his chair, ready to explore Planet Home Forever. Would the life forms there be hostile? What about constellations? Maybe a star more immense than the sun! Suddenly, there was a bright streak of light. The ship tipped over sideways! The alarm went off! Brain clicked rapidly on buttons to find out what was going on.
“Hello! Mission Control. Brain speaking. I have lost Engine 1 and, and,”
There was static on the other end, and the signal was lost. Brain scanned the area and found a planet in the distance. It was unexplored and mysterious.
“Mission Control, I don’t know when and if you’ll get this. I have landed on a new planet on the edge of the Milky Way. Planet Bronco,” said Brain as he recorded the message for Mission Control.
Well, this was it. Would he reach Planet Home Forever? It was uncertain. Brain started to feel down, white light began to be sucked away!
“What was that?!” thought Brain.
The spaceship landed and Brain got out. Brain began to look around. Left…right…FORWARD! There was a bright black emblem that glowed. Brain followed that emblem for HOURS! He was about to collapse when he heard screams! He broke into a run and peered down a hedge. There was a whole city down here. Building after building, each glowing neon color. Yet, there was one peculiar building. The biggest one, neon colors of all sorts, but at the tips of the building, it was pitch black. It seemed to be like vines swirling around. Devouring everything in its path, brick after brick after brick. It wouldn’t stop! Something swiftly hurled at Brain. He collapsed eating some of the dirt. Coughing through the heavy dust, he saw glowing red eyes, starting to become more and more life-like. He took a step back but looked into its eyes. The beast roared out, eyes widening.
“DON’T LOOK AT IT!” yelled someone. She then flew onto the beast with a sword, trying to erase its magic.
Brain ducked with a scream. He wasn’t supposed to, but just a glance. The eyes, so powerful and bright. Calling him, waiting on him. What could one glance do to him? He stared, then suddenly felt drowsy and nauseous. Thud. His eyes blurred.
“Are you okay?” asked a lady peering over him.
“Spluh?” he answered. When he came back to his senses, he was sitting on an eider-down bed with a cloth on his forehead. “Who are you?”
“I’m Healer Amber, you must be from one of the other planets in the Milky Way. I’m sad to say that Dark Red Death ruined your space shuttle. I don’t know how you’ll get home,” said the lady. The door creaked. “Oh! That must be Superhero Schnitzer. She brought you here after Dark Red Death attacked you.”
Brain still oblivious to the fact of what just happened, just said, “Ok,”
“There you are! How are you feeling?” asked the superhero.
“Fine, I guess,” answered Brain. “But how will I get home?”
“We don’t have enough power to send you home,” sighed Superhero Schnitzer. She pulled out a wide tablet. “This is the power source,” she pointed to a large jar, “we fill it with liquid magic. The jar is the source of our city. We only have a cup left. That’s barely enough to supply the city, let alone send you to another planet.”
“Simple! We can just go get more of the magic,” said Brain.
“It’s complicated,” replied the superhero, not making eye contact with Brain.
“All you have to do is get magic, fill up the container, and send me home. How is that complicated?” asked Brain.
“Producing even one drop is hard. This liquid only appears by producing good thoughts. You know those bright red eyes you saw? That’s Dark Red Death. He feeds off negative thoughts by taking away your positivity. To send you home, we need to gather magic liquid.” explained Superhero Schnitzer.
“Are you…?” asked Brain, in awe.
“Yes. Brain, I would like you to fight alongside Bucky (my sidekick) and me. The battles will be tough. Based on the legend, we can beat Dark Red Death by five battles. First Battle, Second Battle, Third Battle, Fourth Battle, and the Fifth Battle. Before we jump into all of this, you need to train. This is the only way for you to get home. Do you accept?” requested the superhero.
“Gladly,” answered Brain.
THE NEXT DAY…
“Are you ready to start training?” asked Superhero Schnitzer.
“Let’s do this!” said Brain.
“For us to win this battle, you need to learn two different spells. Let’s start with the first one - Addition Mission. It’s simple enough to learn. You need to learn the essentials and add them all together into one energy blast. The essentials are adding two or more values and sum. You need to understand the concept to create the spell.” said Ms. Blank, (Brain’s first teacher).
For the full week, Brain focused on Addition Mission. Learning the concepts that would make values bigger to defeat Dark Red Death. By the end of the week, Brain completed the spell! He did it!
“Great job for acing the first spell Brain! Now, let's work on the second, this is the opposite of Addition Mission, Subtraction in Action. This is to erase Dark Red Death’s power and make him weaker.” explained Ms. Blank.
Brain worked and worked and worked day and night. Trying the spell over and over again. This was WAY harder than Addition Mission. Making things smaller? That was more complex than making things bigger. After two weeks Brain did it! Yet that wasn’t the end of his troubles. He now had to battle Dark Red Death! Brain went to Superhero Schnitzer asking for help. Together, they went over stress techniques and positive attitudes. How saying positive words can bring positive mindsets.
“Wake up! It’s time!” whispered Superhero Schnitzer. “Bucky and I are waiting.”
“Okay!” Brain took a deep breath and followed them.
“It’s go time,” said Bucky.
Armed and ready. Back-to-back. They were the Positive Three. Superhero Schnitzer sword in one hand, one side sharp other side rubber. Waiting for Dark Red Death to approach. BOOM! Dust particles formed all over. A pair of bright red eyes with a sense of danger. At first, they were doing well, but Brain realized it wasn’t working. Dark Red Death was becoming stronger and they were getting tired. It was hopeless, what do they stand against a strong magical being? Brain let his amygdala take charge. White light was sucked away again. Another heavy BOOM! Yet this time it set Bucky and Superhero Schnitzer falling back.
“DON’T THINK BAD THOUGHTS! YOU CAN DO THIS!” yelled Bucky.
Brain took a deep breath. “I can do this, I believe in myself,” he thought.
He yelled out his spells and because he had so much positivity in each one of them, they were extremely huge! This sent Dark Red Death roaring and he disappeared. Brain stared in shock. They won. He won. He heard cheers from behind him.
“YEAH!” Brain yelled.
For the next year, Brain worked on thousands of different spells; Spelling, Multiplication, Division, Poems, Prime and Composite Numbers, Data, etc. Working with different teachers, Ms. Blank, Ms. Bennett, Ms. Hickey, Ms. Robin, and Mrs. Young. The jar was filled with magic liquid. Over each battle, Brain had grown stronger and larger. So had Dark Red Death.
“This is the final battle. We have trained with everything we know. But it won’t be enough to defeat Dark Red Death once and for all.” sighed Bucky.
“Guys, I think it’s time we involve Dr. Maxmeter in this,” said Brain.
The next night, everybody sat at the table with two pieces of scratch paper. They talked and tried every idea they could come up with. Suddenly, Dr. Maxmeter had an idea. A slogan that motivates students to do the right thing featuring Bucky, their mascot! It was powerful enough to overfill the jar. Worth a shot.
“Be Like Bucky, B - Be respectful, U - Unlocking integrity, C - Community Matters K - Kindness Takes Courage, Y - Yes, I am Responsible! This is amazing!” said Superhero Schnitzer.
Over the next week Bucky, Superhero Schnitzer, Dr. Maxmeter, and Brain shared it with all the students. Positivity reigned. The jar was overflowing! “Time for the final battle, the RASAT Battle.
“ROAR!” yelled Dark Red Death. It was time.
“GUYS! Come on!” yelled Superhero Schnitzer.
They fought, one blow followed by the next. Something wasn’t right. Brain saw two pairs of eyes! Bright red and green! Brain and the others tried to run. Immediately, Brain’s friends got swallowed and were trapped! He was alone! It was up to him to save Planet Bronco.
“So what if I can’t go home, the only way to save everyone is through using the jar of magic liquid.” thought Brain. He ran away.
Brain collected the magic liquid and came back to the battlefield. Using all his spells he drained the magic liquid. Dark Red Death and his sidekick Zombie Green had become human-sized. They were still very powerful though. Brain gulped. Yet, through all the negativity, he thought positively and gathered himself together. Lo and behold, there was a wand sitting at the bottom of his can that was filled with magic liquid. Brain remembered discussing this wand with Superhero Schnitzer. It was only a myth.
“THE WAND CHOSE YOU! USE IT WISELY!” yelled the superhero.
With trembling fingers, Brain grasped the wand and commanded, “BE LIKE BUCKY!”
Dark Red Death and Sombie Green roared and there was nothing. THEY WERE GONE! Everyone cheered until they were hoarse. Over the next few weeks, Brain and the others restored the jar and the damage. Brain’s space shuttle was rebuilt and ready for takeoff.
“Well, I guess this is goodbye,” Superhero Schnitzer told Brain. “Time for you to get home.”
“Oh, I’m not going home,” answered Brain almost instantly. “I’m going to Planet Mustang to fight drugs.”
“I knew you would! Bye Brain. We’ll miss you,” replied the superhero. Brain and she hugged. He hugged everyone. Climbing the space shuttle, he waved. Everyone returned that wave.
A NEW PLANET, A NEW MISSION!
THE END
