Back In Time

At around 6 am, the talking alarm clock woke and started shrieking.

“HEY! WAKE UP SLEEPY HEAD!”

Melly stretched, yawned, and said to the alarm clock.

“Hey Shriekie, what events are coming up today?” she asked.

“YOU HAVE TO GET GOING! YOUR BOSS WILL BE ANGRY!” shrieked the alarm clock.

“I would rather have him yell at me more than you,” muttered Melly.

“WHAT’S THAT?” questioned Shriekie.

“Nothing! Nothing. I’ll just get going.” said Melly.

She walked into the hallway.

“Hey boy! Hey Charlie!” babied Melly.

“Woof Woof!” said the dog, joyously.

“At least someone in a good mood, I wish I had gotten the Cheerie clock.” Melly shook her head.

“FOR YOUR INFORMATION! I AM A CLOCK! NOT YOUR MOTHER! I WOULD RATHER NOT WAKE YOU UP!” shrieked the alarm clock from the bedroom.

“One day, I will rip those batteries out of their places!” Melly yelled back.

The alarm clock scoffed and was quiet once again.

As Melly drove to the lab, she didn’t notice her dog Charlie hitched a ride at the back of her convertible. He knew perfectly well that he wasn’t allowed in the lab.

Melly shut the door, taking a deep breath. She walked inside, and the bell dinged.

“Hey, Barbara,” said one of the guards. He was staring down at his iPhone 56, a new addition.

“*Ahem*” Melly coughed.

“Look,” the guard looked up, noticing Melly he said, “I am so sorry! Please forgive me, I’ll do anything.”

“Get rid of the phone!” growled Melly.

“NO! I mean, OK!” the guard whimpered. He put the phone on the ground, raising his foot, SMASH!

“No! *Smash!*That’s not what I meant! *SMASH*” yelled Melly between smashes.

The guard picked up his smashed phone and started to cry. “I quit! *Wails* I finally had enough money, and I wasted it!” the guard threw his badge to the floor and ran away.

“Let me guess, you got rid of another one.” sighed a deep voice.

“Hey, boss…” muttered Melly.

Melly's boss squeezed his forehead, crumpled up his fists, took a deep inhale, and hollered “GET TO WORK! I should have seen you on that chair an hour ago!”

“Yes sir!” Melly mumbled.

Melly walked to her office. South building, 2 floors up, 2 paces down the right, at the back of the left corridor.

Melly sat down and took a sip of coffee. She took out all her tools, a pair of goggles, gloves, and a watch.

“If I tune it to the right frequency, it should send the dummy, 3.5 seconds back in time,” Melly told herself.

That’s when Charlie decided to show his appearance. He had been hiding in Melly’s bag.

“Woof! Woof!” barked Charlie.

“Charlie, no!” Melly completely forgot about the watch and dropped it. She was about to get Charlie, but the time warp sucked her inside.

Melly fell to the ground, she felt dirt splattered on her face, Melly wiped it away.

“CHARGE! FOR THE FUTURE OF THE 13 COLONIES!” yelled an unfamiliar voice.

Men started yelling and lighting cannons.

“I NEED TO GET OUT OF THE WAY!” yelled Melly.

Melly started running, she had no idea where she was going. BOOM! BOOM! BOOM! BOOM! Melly didn’t stop, she ran faster. CRACK! CRACK! CRACK! Until one of the pieces going faster than ever hit her. She slumped to the ground, the smoke, it was too much for her; her eyes blurred.

When she awoke, she found a motionless arm on her! Had the bombs buried her alive? Melly coughed and looked at her stomach, the bomb piece had made her blood run freely, She used all of her strength to pull herself up. She examined the man, dark mustache, and a slender body. He was wearing a white and red outfit which could only mean one thing. He was a redcoat! Melly was in the Revolutionary War!

Melly started breathing rapidly, her heart pumping faster every minute, taking sharp inhales.

“NOOOOOOOOO!” Melly screamed inside her head. “Oh wait, that’s ok, I can just use the screwdriver in my pocket to fix the watch.”

Melly grabbed her screwdriver and glanced at the watch. The watch was broken, she was trapped!

“No, no, this isn’t happening! I’ll need glass and wires and so many other tools! It’s over, I’m going to stay here and die here.” Melly lost hope. She started walking, thinking. “Dying is just like falling into a slumber that lasts forever. Goodbye Charlie, Goodbye Shriekie, Goodbye everyone!” Melly cried and cried.

She walked out of the battlefield into the dense forest nearby. The air was damp and cold, and Melly sat in a cave. The water was trickling slower than Melly’s tears. That’s when Melly heard it, gunshots! She backed deeper into the cave, someone was watching her!

“HANDS UP NOW! Follow me or you’ll regret it!” said the soldier, he was patting his gun.

Melly gulped, she put her hands up and followed the soldier.

“They're going to kill me, they're going to kill me, they're going to kill me,” the thought ran over and over in Melly’s mind.

After a 10-minute brisk walk, Melly was brought to the bomb shelter.

“Lieutenant, I brought in another one!” the soldier saluted someone.

He turned around, GEORGE WASHINGTON!

To be continued…
