Found you!

My name is Layla, I live with my sour aunt in the countryside. Even though I am my aunt’s sister’s daughter, she treats me like a servant. I have to do all the chores in the house and I don’t have any time to go to school. My parents however, I actually don’t really know if my aunt is telling the truth, but I have to believe it, she says “Your parents died in a car crash!” Well, on a sunny day, I realized that wasn’t true.

The day started normal and well the same as always. “Layla! Get up and start your chores now!” I rubbed my eyes and shivered, even though she says that everyday I always get scared. I sleepily walked down the stairs in my rags and in my palm she slaps one slice of toast. “Good morning aunt.” “Get started now!!!!!!” I quickly finish up my breakfast and I run outside to feed the hens. As I was heading inside to start washing the dishes. I heard something like, “Layla, come to me, please, your mother is alive.” I turned around to hear the voice that was a whisper but I shrugged and ran inside.

I kept hearing the voice all day, then as I ran up to bed I saw something drop out of my aunt’s coat, as I reached for it my aunt looked down at me. “Hey, that’s mine, get up and go to bed!” I shivered and ran back to my room, but I became suspicious, around midnight I was still awake.

I got up knowing my aunt would be asleep, as I quickly put on my boots, the floor creaked behind me, I quickly took off my shoes and stuffed them under my bed. The door made a light sound and I slowly crept to my aunt’s room and saw the book sitting there on her bed. She rolled over and I froze, I seized the book and ran for it, I accidentally hit her bookshelf, she sat up. “You! Give that book back!” I screamed and ran out of the house as fast as I could. My aunt followed me and grabbed a flashlight. I hid behind a tree and covered my mouth and tried not to move. Soon my aunt gave up the search and took a glance outside before she walked back in the house.

I got up and ran as fast as I could and when I got tired and slowed down a bit and heard a tree rustle, I turned around and breathed heavily, I slowly and quietly walked back, but then I bumped into something or someone. I turned around and screamed, there standing was a woodsman about at least 5 feet and 3 inches. “Hey I won’t hurt you? Where are you from?” I told the story and he looked at me. I inched away from him, but then he offered me to stay in his cabin tonight. I had a good dinner and me and him, or, his name was Archer, sang songs around the fire and then when I was sleeping someone jumped in and pulled my hand, I found the urge to scream, but the person clapped his/her hand over my mouth, just then Archer ran in.

The person shot him with a gun, and he/she revealed their face, my aunt! “Do you know how much money I had to pay to come here! Trust me I will kill you! C’mon!” She pulled my hand, still her hand on my mouth, she grabbed me and took me to a deserted place and tied me to a broken chair. As she grabbed her gun, I heard the voice one more “Layla! You have super powers, just think of what you need in your head and it will appear!” I listened to the voice and pictured scissors in my brain, it appeared and I cut the ropes and ran away. Soon I was deep in the woods, it started to rain. “Great.”

I tripped on a rock, just before I fell, something caught me or should I say someone! “L Layah?!” “Yes.” There I saw standing there was my long lost sister, “I thought you were dead!” I said in shock, “I didn’t die, I just ran away.” She told me her side of the story. She ran away because she figured out our aunt was a criminal who kidnapped kids. Suddenly my brain lit up, I remembered I found a diary, I held it out and we read together.

Dear Diary, it is me Lylah

That was our mother’s name. I looked down the page and saw my aunt’s name, Lyrah.

Today Lyrah came down for a visit, in our prison in Ohio, to share the news that Layah died. I cried like there was going to be a hurricane of tears rolling down my cheeks, I miss my daughters! Layla if you are out there I have given my diary to your aunt, don’t worry she can’t open it though, I want to tell you that you have magic, magic blood, I have drawn a map that you can follow, come visit me, please, I haven’t you in 10 years, well, goodbye to Layah. I have a spell book in the diary somewhere, it will help you with your magic. Your father is gone, he died years ago.

I unfolded the remaining pages, Layah and I looked at them. We just had to cross a river, go through a field and go up the mountain. “Piece of cake!” said Layah “Mmm Hmm!” “We just have to be careful of our aunt!” “Uh huh” “Let's go!”

When we reached the river, we didn’t know how to cross it, then I remembered the spell book and I flipped through the pages to find a teleportation spell, it was easy, you just had to picture it in your mind and say “I wish we could go there!” Layah and I pictured it in our minds and yelled the words, then we were on the other side of the river.

We kept on walking and we saw the field, something clicked, “Stop” whispered Layah, there we saw a bunch of poisonous red scorpions hanging out in the field. “This isn’t as easy as I thought it would be.” I said. I looked at pages in the magic book and found the freeze ray, this one was a bit harder. You'd have to dip your finger in something ice cold to have fuel on this spell, then point your index finger at what you want frozen and close your eyes and believe, then it is frozen. Luckily it was in the middle of winter, and the river was nearby and I dipped my hands inside, Layah did the same, then we ran back and did the spell, soon all the scorpions were frozen and we walked on.

The mountaintop was very high and it was covered with poison ivy. I looked through the pages but I didn’t see a spell that would help us with this. “Find anything?” Layah asked, “Nope.” I answered back. I was feeling discouraged, then I heard the voice again. “Remember what I told you.” it said in a whisper again. Then I knew what to do, “Hey Layah, we have magic, but if we picture something in our heads it will come to life!” She gave me a “Are you crazy!” look, she sighed, “It’s worth a try I suppose.” We pictured something, I got the axe and Layah, had a cake, “Something useful!” I yelled at her, “Food’s important and I’m starving!” I groaned, I started cutting down the poison ivy with my axe and walked along careful not to step on it, I motioned her to follow me.

As we reached the top I almost fell over. Then I looked up, I saw my mother standing in a prison next to me. I gasped “You’re alive!” I cried to my mother. “Layah, I thought you were dead!” said our mother, “Nope.” answered Layah. I tried to break the door but it was too strong. “If you go back in time you can get the key, it is in your aunt’s safe, the key of it is in a fake pack of gum in your aunt’s 3rd drawer.” said our mother.

“I want to go back to exactly at 12:00 AM on June 9th!” I wished, then I saw my aunt snoring, I opened the 3rd drawer, trying not to make any sound, I found the fake gumpack and I went to the attic and looked for the safe, I found it in a dark corner at the back of  the attic, I opened in and I saw the key in a block of ice, I imagined hotness and the key was ready to go. I heard footsteps, I had to go back to the future, where I originally was. “I want to go back to 9:34 AM on June 9th.” I whispered. As I went back to 9:34 I opened the door, the 3 of us jumped into a hug. Tears of joy ran from our mother’s cheeks.

“Who dares to open the prison?!” my aunt thundered. “I did!” I said. My aunt grabbed me by the neck “You insolent child, you’re no better than your good for nothing sister!” “That is not true!” I screamed back. She swung me around and threw me on the ground. I tried to get up, but the pain was shooting through my body, then she hit me with a rock on my forehead. Everything looked drowsy, I could hear our mother screaming, Layah was shouting, my eyes closed.

When I woke up I found myself in the cage with Layah and our mother. “How long has it been since we’ve been here?” I asked groggily, “2 days.” answered Layah putting a tally mark on the wall. “This is my fault.” I said. I sighed, then my brain lit up like a light bulb. I teleported and I found my aunt getting ready, I hid quickly, I didn’t want her to see me. I pictured ropes and pointed them to my aunt and they wrapped around her “What is going on?!” she screamed and I smiled a weak smile. They squeezed tighter and tighter until she couldn’t breath, then dropped in the ocean still squeezing her, she was gone. Then I smiled wider and wider until I smiled ear to ear, I unlocked the cage and Layah, me and our mom ran away smiling together!
